Where the story began
Nurse Eleyamma was born to Thomas and Mary in Thalayolaparambu, Kottayam, Kerala. Growing up in a close Christian family, she developed an interest in nursing and went on to study at Kottayam Mandiram Hospital, specializing in midwifery.
A nurse remembered for compassion
Her career as a government nurse took her to hospitals in and around Kottayam. Our family remembers the dedication she brought to patients and the comfort she offered their families.
Her service earned community recognition, awards and newspaper coverage. She became known locally as “The Mother Teresa of Thalayolaparambu”—a reflection of the care people associated with her.
A lasting example
Eleyamma retired in 1988 and passed away in 1995. Her example lived on in the stories shared by her family and the values passed to the next generation.
From Kerala to Canada
Inspired by their grandmother, her granddaughters pursued nursing and became Registered Nurses in Canada. The compassion and commitment they saw in her life continued to guide their own work.
Strong roots. A new chapter.
The dream of creating a home-care service became The Noble Oak: a way to honour Nurse Eleyamma’s legacy through care grounded in love, compassion, hope and excellence.
Today, that family story shapes our promise to the people of Windsor–Essex: “Enjoy life, we promise to care.”
